Tom Petty on Roy Orbison & “OH, PRETTY WOMAN”

“The first time that I heard him was on the family radio. I remember that he sounded very otherworldly, like he came from another place. I remember the next time I heard him was when he did ‘Mean Woman Blues,’ and that really shook me up, and I then made a point to find his records and find out exactly who this was. Not long after that ‘Oh, Pretty Woman’ came out, and everyone knew who he was. He had that incredible stage presence with the sunglasses and this jet-black hair.”
