“HEARTACHE” by Roy Orbison

“HEARTACHE” was the first single from Roy Orbison’s 1969 album from MGM Records called ROY ORBISON’S MANY MOODS. It peaked at #44 at the time, and was later released again as the b-side to Roy’s single “Sweet Mama Blue” in 1974.

ROY ORBISON’S MANY MOODS has lots of great songs including Orbison’s stunning version of “UNCHAINED MELODY.”-

Roy Orbison: 1956 Radio Advertisement for Sun Records Concert

This ad of a 1950’s Memphis disc jockey is for the June 1st concert at Overton Park Shell featuring Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash and Warren Smith. All were signed to manager Bob Neal’s company called Stars Incorporated. Tickets were $1.

The show was the start of their summer tour and Elvis Presley came to the see. Elvis was impressed with Orbison and remained a lifelong fan. The tour is highlighted in the Johnny Cash movie “Walk The Line” in scenes such as Roy and Johnny blowing up homemade firework bombs. Carl Perkins and Roy Orbison had their clothes ripped off by masses of teenage girls many times. They were banned from towns, started riots, and had police escort them to the county line or face arrest. Next Year’s tour, 1957, included Jerry Lee Lewis in the lineup. Hail! Hail! Rock and Roll!

The new exhibit opening this Friday, August 15th at The Johnny Cash Museum features items from Orbison, Presley, Perkins, and Lewis.

THE JOHNNY CASH MUSEUM PREPARES TO SHINE LIGHT ON SUN RECORDS ARTISTS
*The Legends of Sun Records Exhibit Opens to Public on August 15th*
It’s the dawn of a new exhibition at The Johnny Cash Museum with the unveiling of The Legends of Sun Records collection on August 15th.  This exhibit marks the first addition to the world renowned Johnny Cash Museum and is sure to be the first of many for the JCM.  The Legends of Sun Records exhibit will feature artifacts that spotlight Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and drummer W.S. Holland.
“Johnny Cash began his musical career at Sun Records,” says Founder Bill Miller. “Sun was the launch pad for several young men whose music would forever impact the world. Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison and Johnny came from similar backgrounds and humble beginnings. Once they walked through the door at the Memphis Recording Service, their lives would never be the same. We are proud to showcase Johnny’s labelmates from this historic period in rock and roll history.”

The founders of the museum aren’t the only ones both excited and honored to be a part of the exhibit.
