Rick Rubin was already a Roy Orbison fan, but when he heard Roy sing live in the mid 1980’s it changed his direction. Previously famous for rap (Run DMC) and death metal (Slayer) Rubin started working with Roy Orbison. He introduced Roy to Glenn Danzig (of the Misfits). Soon Glen was coming over to the Orbison house and writing songs with Roy. They recorded a song called “LIFE FADES AWAY” which is quite amazing. Imagine Rick Rubin’s spin on Roy Orbison. It is a colossal work and Rick framed Roy’s classic 1960’s elements with modern production and even darker subject matter.
