“LOVE HURTS” BY ROY ORBISON. ORIGINAL HIT OF STANDARD WRITTEN BY BOUDLEAUX BRYANT

This is the original hit of this standard which written by Roy’s friend Boudleaux Bryant. “LOVE HURTS was the B-side to Roy’s 1961 #1 hit single “RUNNING SCARED”. It was so good that it charted in various regions because disc jockeys played both sides back to back repeatedly. This was an early example of a double sided hit which was quite rare before that time for any artist except Elvis Presley. Other artists of the day usually had “throw away” material on the B-side. Roy really prided himself on his double sided hits (like “CRYING”/”CANDYMAN”) and wanted both sides to be as good as possible. The fans who bought his music noticed and it is one of the many reasons why they loved him so much. Roy Orbison’s “LOVE HURTS” was playing on every jukebox in America!
