Warren Smith & Elvis Presley –

April 12, 2019 by royorbison

Both friends of Roy Orbison from Sun Records. After Roy Orbison and Teen Kings broke up as a band, Warren Smith’s band became Roy’s band for recording and touring. Most of Roy’s Sun Record Company songs were recorded with them. On the 1956 tour they would play a set with Roy then switch clothes and play for Warren. Nobody noticed.

In 1957, Smith recorded a song written by Roy Orbison, “So Long, I’m Gone”. It became his biggest hit.

ELVIS PRESLEY came to the June 1st, 1956 show in Memphis and introduced Roy Orbison to the audience. Roy came out and started with “Ooby Dooby”.
