Written by Elvis Costello who was a guest star in the ”Black and White Night” concert special.Roy Orbison made a subtle change to the lyrics of the song, altering it to ”The Comediennes” which is the femine form of ”comedian”. He felt the chorus’ meaning would be clearer with the change and wanted this to be the new title as well.Listen closely and you will hear that he is singing ”Comediennes” and not ”comedians”.However, the record company never made the title change Roy requested and the album was released with Costello’s original title.
