“AN EMPTY CUP & A BROKEN DATE” performed by Buddy Holly & The Crickets

February 3, 2014 by admin

On this day in 1959 Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and The Big Bopper were tragically killed in a plane crash.  Termed, The Day The Music Died, the loss of these talented, young musicians shook the nation.

A fellow Texan, Buddy Holly was especially close to Roy Orbison.  Roy thought of Buddy as a little brother and Roy’s influence can easily be seen on Holly’s records.  In fact, the debut album from Buddy Holly and The Crickets was called “The Chirping Crickets” and contained two Roy Orbison songs- “You’ve Got Love” & “An Empty Cup (and a Broken Date).”

Here’s “AN EMPTY CUP (& A BROKEN DATE)” performed by Buddy Holly & The Crickets –
