Recorded on this day in 1973, “BLUE RAIN” was written by Roy Orbison and Joe Melson for Roy’s MILESTONES album released by MGM Records in 1973. Orbison and Melson wrote many songs together including such hits as “Only the Lonely,” “Uptown,” “Crying,” and “Blue Bayou.”

“IT TAKES ALL KINDS OF PEOPLE” by Roy Orbison
On March 18, 1970 Roy Orbison went into the studio and cut two songs co-written with a then 24-year-old musician who happened to be the president of MGM Records, where Roy was signed at the time, Mike Curb. Both songs written by Orbison and Curb, “So Young” and “It Takes All Kinds of People,” were featured in movies- Zabriskie Point and Moonshine War, respectively.
